Hair Transplants

Hair loss is common among patients that have a history of family baldness. It is also cause by male hormones and ageing. A hormone called dihydrotestosterone is sensitive and if the level of these hormones is altered or decreased it may cause loss of hair including baldness.

With a male patient the alteration of testosterone even at an early age such as their teen age years can cause severe hair loss and baldness. As opposed to women ageing is most common cause of hair loss. This condition is called androgenic alopecia and is typically treated by a dermatologist.

A great alternative to baldness is a hair transplant; this is a surgery that will be done as an outpatient surgery. The procedure will use a strip filled with follicular unit and is removed from the scalp of the patient. After this is removed this strip will be placed on the part of the scalp that is balding. A patient might be able to identify a small while line or scar however; this scar will not be visible unless the patient decides to shave their head bald.

The implanted strip will grow from any place of the scalp that is implanted and is a permanent procedure. The most important this is to identify hair groupings as well as dissect these units from the surrounding tissue. Once this is done a follicular unit is transplanted and verified with a microscope to ensure growth of the replaced hair.

A first time procedure can last from three to five hours depending on each individual case. This process might have a second and third need for surgery. Depending on the size of the bald spot and the number of surgeries that need to be done, will estimate your total cost.

There is another alternative to hair restoration where the transplant procedure is assisted by a laser transplant and it is less uncomfortable than a surgery. This process is done where it is possible and only few patients will qualify for this transplant surgery with this process micrographs are used to create a more natural look. However it is important that there is no such thing as a perfect hair restoration or implant.
